I went to see the jeans whisperer!
The orange tab 505’s
Finding the perfect jeans can be hard. Trust me - I know! I’ve been through some serious body struggles the last couple of years but I’m at a place now where I’m comfortable and that means enjoying new jeans! Or in this case, vintage jeans. I wear jeans pretty much daily and I have a fair few pairs so to me spending a decent amount on them is ok because I know I’ll be living I them! This cute boutique vintage store is quite literally a hop skip and a Jump away from me so I can’t believe it’s taken me 3.3 years to get walk through the door!
When I met Caitlin Brax, the owner of @aavintedge she asked what I was looking for and I said a straight leg (didn’t mention brands, sizes or anything) She looked me up and down and motioned for me to turn around and said I’ll be right back. I was a giddy, That’s some stylist magic right there.
Quick story from the day before. I was looking at jeans online and thinking about what I used to wear when I was in school. I had a pair of orange tab darker wash Levi’s which I loved. They weren’t the cool girl pair back in the day, those were the red tab 501’s but they fit me really well and I’ve always loved how Levi’s just give you a really great looking ass! (excuse my French) So I did a quick google search to try and find some orange tab Levi’s and what do you know, they are now vintage! Who knew!
Caitlin Brax knew that’s who! Off I went up the spiral staircase along with the most lovely SA, Joy with not one but two pairs of orange tab Levi’s and a couple of other pairs to try. I was led into a 70’s / Britney Spears themed bathroom to start my try on session and it was evident they fit me like a glove, each pair did. The denim back then was made so much better with hardly any elastane so the shape holds, no bagging at the knees, no saggy bottoms and I know this to be true because I bought a pair of 501’s earlier this year and they are already too big :(. I can have them altered of course but it is annoying to think that I spent $98 and not long after they’re at the point where I have to have them tailored.
I ended up leaving with 3 pairs in total. 2 orange tabs, I believe they are 505’s and one pair of 501’s and a mans striped shirt, my other true love. The store itself is super cute, and runs 2 floors. Every thing from suede jackets, vintage tees to Nokia phones and fur stoles, there’s something for everyone.
I’ve waffled for too long. Go see her, she’s amazing, the proof is in the pudding 🍑.
